I just can't make Linux work smoothly
by Jots from LinuxQuestions.org on (#4TSZS)
Hello everyone,
I wanna start saying that I have a little experience to using Linux. I have spent a lot of time learning about it and I am pretty confident in using them however I can't get a distro to work properly in my pc or laptop. I love the ideas behind Linux and I really want to use them.
Some backstory first. My first attemt in using Linux was at my PC. Long story short I couldn't get lutris to run smoothly and after some troubleshooting I couldn't take it anoymore and just gave up. Now that didn't matter to me a lot because it was just a test run to make myself more familiar with Linux.
The real issue was with my Laptop. I recently got a new Laptop which is intended for studying and very little gaming (aka when I want to game outside of my house) as well as classic web browsing and watching some videos/movies. The issue here was the fan control. It seems like there is no (easy at least) way for linux to control my laptop fan resulting in some overheating. I tried a lot of stuff and ended up giving up,this time not because I was tired but because I couldn't find anything else to try. On some forums I even saw cases of people saying it might just be impossible.
Anyway the tl;dr of the story is : I really want to use Linux. I just love the way they feel and the freedom they offer. I don't mind troubleshooting here and there, I actually like using the terminal and everything about Linux feels much better... when I get them to work but I can't get them to work.
My question to you is the following. Should I keep trying or it isn't worth the effort to spend even more hours trying to get Linux to work properly? (I'd say I spent more than 5-6 hours for two days trying to set up everything).
PS. To all other new Linux users out there that read this post : Don't take this post too seriously. The problem is specific to my laptop and I saw a lot of people solving their issues easily. So just give it a go and see what you can do better than me
