while compiling nvidia driver, the script complains that nouveu driver still running in tumbleweed

I have an nvidia geforce 6200 pci express video card. The nvidia drivers available via yast are not compatible and I am unable to compile the NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-304.137.run file. I boot into run level 3 'init 3' and the script stops complaining that nouveu is still running. In yast, I see the following:
kernel-firmware-nvidia
libdrm_nouveau2
xf86-video-nouveau
xf86-video-nv
Does nouveau need to be blacklisted? Can I uninstall the xf86-video-nouveau since xf86-video-nv is providing 2d acceleration? I am also a bit confused over problems I read about when updating with a tainted kernel and reinstalling the nvidia driver.
