Colts' Brissett won't play vs. Dolphins
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Jacoby Brissett has been ruled out for the team's game against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday due to an MCL injury, the club announced on Saturday.
Brissett suffered the injury when guard Quenton Nelson rolled up on his leg in the second quarter of the Colts' Week 9 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. An MRI on Monday revealed an MCL sprain but no serious damage.
Head coach Frank Reich said on Friday that Brissett, who was a limited participant at practice all week, could play through the injury with a "little risk" of suffering further damage, according to IndyStar's Joel A. Erickson.
Brian Hoyer, who took extra reps in practice this week, will make his first start for the Colts after coming on in relief against the Steelers. Hoyer recorded 168 passing yards, three touchdowns, and two turnovers in the loss.
The Colts also elevated signal-caller Chad Kelly from their practice squad on Saturday to bolster the team's quarterback depth chart.
