Myles Garrett took responsibility for his actions Thursday after he hit Mason Rudolph over the head with the quarterback's own helmet during a massive brawl between the Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers.

"I made a mistake and I lost my cool and I regret it," Garrett said, according to Ben Axelrod of WKYC. "It's going to come back to hurt our team, the guys who jumped in the scrum. I appreciate my team having my back, but it shouldn't have ever gotten to that point. That's on me."

Garrett added that his actions were "foolish" and "out of character," according to Nate Davis of USA Today.

Garrett was one of three players ejected after the fracas, which took place in the final seconds of Thursday Night Football. Cleveland won the game 21-7.

The 23-year-old pass-rusher refused to divulge what set him off, even when reporters asked him if Rudolph had said anything malicious to him right before.

"You just gotta go look at it," he said, according to Axelrod. "I'm not going to comment on it."

Garrett acknowledged he isn't sure what to expect in the way of discipline from the NFL. The former first overall pick figures to face one of the longest suspensions for on-field behavior in recent memory.

"I've never been in this situation," he said. "I've never really seen any suspension. I've never really looked into it. I don't know what they're going to do."
