Tracking down 1.5Tb of unreported data?
by JamesNorris from LinuxQuestions.org on (#4VKB8)
I am significantly behind the times with Linux desktop, having started using it about 20 years ago and settling on Mythbuntu for our PVR machine and Kubuntu on our laptops. It just worked and I got lazy.
Recently I had a HDD fail in the PVR and when rsync-ing my old /home drive on to the new device, it seems to have used twice as much space as I'd have expected. I've moved the contents of a 1.5Tb drive to a 4Tb drive and somehow have only 500Gb remaining.
Baobab reports that only 1.4Tb is being used, but Thunar reports that there are only 500Gb remaining on the device. gParted says I've used exactly 3Gb!?!
What can I do to find and recover this space?
