Veracrypt on Linux Mint

Hi All
I have recently installed Linux Mint on my old 32bit computer to dual boot with windows XP.
After a lot of attempts and many looks at various tutorials I managed to download the veracrypt .tar file and then extract it. This appeared to be successful but when I attempt to open veracrypt by clicking on the logo nothing happens. I wonder if I have installed the wrong version (x86) ? How can I check ?
