Slackware KVM Qemu/VMS Pre-flight check and advice

Sometime last year, I gave into my anger about not getting GPU Passthrough and gave up in regards to successfully isolating windows from my system.
This time I want to make things right, I miss Slack and I want to go back.

Code:Hardware Specs:

Motherboard : Asus sabertooth 990FX R2.0
Guest GPU : Sapphire RX 480 Nitro+
Host GPU : Sapphire R350
CPU : AMD FX-8350Double-Pained and Insulated Windows
Pun intended.

My problem of not being able to keep windows, and it's programs as a secondary part of my system has been mostly a fault of my own perfectionism. Last year I managed to have a fully-dedicated slackware desktop system for that time, it's just that it wasn't perfect, I didn't truely have an "ideal system" in mind, and the ensuing headaches from both those problems and my unrealistic expectations destroyed my patience and self-esteem.

So after some research and introspection I have my ideal system, and that involves a single windows guest with slackware as my host and main system.

Questions / Sanity Check

I plan to use Qemu and VMS, that was the setup that gave me the least headaches during use, so that's what I will stick with. It's been a while, so I have some questions to ask before I install Slackware on my system.
  • Should I use Slackware 14.2, or current, given my hardware, and will I need to build my own kernel for it?
  • What extra stuff should I use or add to Qemu/VMS to make things run more smoothly?
  • Where else can I better learn about Qemu and can understand it more so I can improve the stability of my Virtual Machines? (I plan on starting with youtube and the Qemu wiki)
  • What's a solid and secure method of transferring files between the host and guest?
  • What advice can success-story-slackers who managed to proverbially "Insulate their windows" give me?
