Jaguars will start Minshew over Foles vs. Chargers
Minshew Mania is cleared to resume.
The Jacksonville Jaguars announced Monday they'll start rookie quarterback Gardner Minshew over high-priced offseason acquisition Nick Foles in their Week 14 contest against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Minshew replaced Foles on Sunday after the latter struggled to get the offense going for a third straight week. The 23-year-old finished 16-for-27 for 147 yards with one touchdown and an interception against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The charismatic sixth-round draft choice started eight games earlier this year after Foles broke his clavicle. Jacksonville went 4-4 with Minshew atop the depth chart.
Foles' benching raises questions about the 30-year-old's future with the Jaguars, who gave him a four-year, $88-million deal in free agency. The former Super Bowl MVP was brought in after Jacksonville released Blake Bortles from his bloated contract.
Minshew has thrown for 2,432 yards with 14 touchdowns against five interceptions in 10 appearances in 2019. Foles has thrown for 736 yards with three touchdowns and two picks over parts of four outings.
