The Detroit Lions will designate Kerryon Johnson as their return player from injured reserve and the running back will practice Wednesday.

Detroit now has a three-week window to officially activate Johnson after he landed on IR with a knee injury in October. He's eligible to return in Week 16 against the Denver Broncos.

The second-year tailback has battled various knee ailments over the last few years. A sprain cost him the final six games of his rookie campaign.

Bo Scarbrough, Ty Johnson, and J.D. McKissic have carried the load in Johnson's absence. Detroit's rushing offense currently ranks 18th in the league.
