BIOS starts just fine but the arrows do not respond in the menu - while the notebook works "ok"

I wanted to reinstall my Linux Mint System today but found a problem in my BIOS System I really cannot solve.
My Notebook still works fine with the old Linux Mint 18.2-system but has some troubles updating the repositories or the other updates of files. This Linux system is 1,5 years old. So I thought reinstalling after a good data savings would be the appropriate thing to do.
Well, the Stick with the fresh, new Linux Mint 19.2 is completely working in my wife's Notebook. It is fine.
So to my reasoning is that there must be a kind of hardware related problem why the arrows in the BIOS do not work on either the native or the external keyboard. I switched the external one out. i tried to remove the USB stick. Nothing seems to change the situation.
How can I make BIOS and the normal BOOT-function work properly?
Warm regards
Matthias
