Rams' Goff dealing with thumb injury on throwing hand

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Jared Goff suffered a thumb bruise on his throwing hand against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 15, head coach Sean McVay said Monday, according to ESPN's Lindsey Thiry.

However, McVay added that Goff's thumb had already gotten better.

"He was feeling good. Came in, checked out today," the coach said. "That's a positive for him."

Goff injured his thumb in the second quarter of the matchup with Dallas. The 25-year-old played through the ailment and finished with 284 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception in Los Angeles' 44-21 defeat.

While there's no indication the Rams won't have Goff for their crucial divisional clash against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 16, a couple of other starters could miss the contest.

Cornerback Troy Hill injured his right thumb in the first quarter against Dallas and underwent surgery Monday, while kicker Greg Zuerlein suffered a "low strain quad." McVay said he feels good about Zuerlein playing in Week 16.

At 8-6, L.A. is still hoping to make the playoffs by earning a wild-card spot. The Rams are two games behind the Minnesota Vikings with two weeks remaining, so they must win out and the Vikings must lose back-to-back contests.
