Lions to retain HC Patricia, GM Quinn for 2020
Detroit Lions owner Martha Ford said head coach Matt Patricia and general manager Bob Quinn will remain with the team in 2020, according to Lions reporter Mike O'Hara.
The Lions decided to bring back both Patricia and Quinn aiming for competitive seasons in the near future.
"We expect to be a playoff contender," Ford said Tuesday to a select group of media members, per O'Hara. "That means playing meaningful games in December."
Patricia, 45, is completing his second season in Detroit. After a 6-10 campaign in 2018, he's posted a 3-10-1 record through 14 games this year. Despite starting the 2019 season 2-0-1, the Lions have lost 10 of their past 11 tilts.
Injuries have plagued Detroit recently, as the club has been without running back Kerryon Johnson and quarterback Matthew Stafford since Week 7 and 9, respectively.
The Lions' offense has averaged 21.7 points (ranked 18th in the league) and 360.9 total yards (13th) per game, while their defensive unit has allowed 26.6 (26th) points and 401.9 yards per contest (31st).
Detroit most recently made the playoffs in 2016. The NFC North team carries the second-longest postseason losing streak in the NFL; its last playoff victory occurred in 1991.
