network manager drops wifi and requires manual reset, current 5.4.3

I'm finding on all 3 of my laptops (all different hardware and ages) that after I boot and load my WM or desktop, NetworkManager connects to my wifi as expected then drops the connection. At that point I reconnect manually, and it stays connected until the cycle repeats on the next reboot.

I use nmtui, but the behavior is the same in XFCE which includes the full graphical interface.

Any suggestions?

UPDATE, I just upgraded to kernel 5.4.4 and NM was bumped to 1.22, seeing if that's better...
