The Carolina Panthers interviewed former Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy for their head coaching vacancy Sunday, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The meeting reportedly took place following Carolina's game against the Indianapolis Colts.

McCarthy hasn't coached since the Packers fired him after their Week 13 loss last season.

The 56-year-old had a successful 13-year coaching career in Green Bay, amassing a 135-85-2 record from 2006-18 (including playoffs). The Packers missed the postseason in the final two years of his tenure.

The Panthers fired longtime head coach Ron Rivera early in December. After finishing last year 7-9, Carolina is 5-10 through Week 16, posting an 0-3 record under interim head coach Perry Fewell.

Since its first season in 1995, Carolina has had five different coaches: Dom Capers (1995-98), George Seifert (1999-2001), John Fox (2002-10), Rivera (2011-19), and Fewell (2019-present).
