Linux Mint 19.3 won't dual boot like 19.1 did, lost my Ubuntu OS
by Lilleyen from LinuxQuestions.org on (#4X102)
I have recently upgraded from Mint 19.2 to Mint 19.3 on my upstairs PC.
Loved it! It is a dual boot Mint/Windows 10 setup.
On my downstairs PC, I decided to switch from Ubuntu 18.04 to Mint 19.1 as I had the installation file on a USB stick, with the goal of upgrading that immediately to 19.3 online.
Did a dual boot(Ubuntu/Mint),install as prompted by Mint 19.1 and it went perfectly.
After that I upgraded from within Mint 19.1 to Mint 19.3
It did the upgrade OK, but I never saw an option regarding a dual boot.
After the upgrade there is no more dual boot, it simply reboots into Mint 19.3 (which is fantastic and fast BTW, love it).
So I have lost some important files that were on the Ubuntu OS.
I tried to move theses files in advance onto a USB stick but I ran into the "no permissions" thing.
I was hoping to be able to boot into Ubuntu when I needed them, but now I can't
I tried upgrading my Grub file so far but no difference.
Is there some way to fix this?
Help!
