Rodgers: 'I don't need to throw 40 touchdowns for us to win'

Aaron Rodgers' numbers may look different this season.

The Green Bay Packers quarterback enters the final week of the campaign short of 4,000 passing yards on the year, and he's recorded just 24 touchdown passes. The two-time league MVP has fallen short of the 4,000-yard mark just once in his career when playing in all 16 games.

But the 2019 Packers aren't as reliant on Rodgers' arm.

"I think the level of success and the way that I feel I'm playing is different in this offense this year. I don't need to throw 40 touchdowns for us to win," Rodgers said, according to ESPN's Rob Demovsky.

"I need to be great on my checks, be as efficient as possible," he added. "I need to take care of the football."

Exhibit A was the Packers' latest victory on Monday night over the Minnesota Vikings. Green Bay clinched the NFC North title with Rodgers throwing for just 216 yards.

Though he attempted 40 passes against Minnesota, Rodgers finished with zero touchdown tosses and threw only his third interception of the year. The Pack relied on two rushing scores from running back Aaron Jones and their defense holding the Vikings to 10 points.

Rodgers' seasons of 40-plus touchdown passes may be a thing of the past.

"There were years when I was throwing it 600 times damn near every year, and that's what we needed to do to win. This year, we've done it a different way," he said.
