The Washington Redskins will remove Bruce Allen from his role as head of football operations, a source close to Allen informed John Keim of ESPN.

Allen will reportedly continue as team president, but that decision isn't official yet.

It was reported in November that Redskins owner Daniel Snyder was evaluating Allen's status amid another lost season.

Allen joined the Redskins in 2009 and took over football operations in 2013.

The Redskins have operated without a general manager since Scot McCloughan was fired after the 2016 season. Washington dismissed head coach Jay Gruden after Week 5 in 2019, and it's undecided whether Allen will have a hand in selecting the team's next sideline boss.

Former Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera is a top candidate for the vacant role, and former Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis and Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy are also in consideration, Les Carpenter and Mark Maske of the Washington Post report.

Allen has been influential during the Redskins' bid to build a new stadium, Keim adds.
