How can I browse emails through Maildir folders?

Hi,
How can I browse emails through Maildir folders?
It would be great if I could just use a profile of Thunderbird, Evolution, Claws, etc, and just point it to the folders.
But I have never done that.
If it happened to you, how would you do it?
