SSD for MX Linux 18.2

What is the minimum size (in GB) SSD I need to install Linux, download a typical two-hour movie, and burn to DVD? Also is SATA 3 backwards compatible with SATA 2? My PC is a Dell OptiPlex 755. I think it is only SATA 2. Do I need to avoid SATA 3 SSDs, mobile-racks, etc? Thanks for any advice.
