The Chicago Bears signed safety Eddie Jackson to a four-year, $58.4-million extension on Friday, his agency announced. The deal includes $33 million guaranteed.

Jackson, who had one year remaining on his rookie deal, is now the highest-paid safety in the NFL based on average annual salary ($14.6 million).

The 26-year-old has been a pivotal piece of the Bears' secondary since being selected in the fourth round of the 2017 draft. The Alabama product started 46 games for Chicago over the past three seasons and earned back-to-back Pro Bowl selections in 2018 and '19.

Since entering the league, the one-time All-Pro has forced 14 turnovers and recorded five touchdowns.

The Bears, who featured the league's best defense in 2018, couldn't repeat their strong campaign in 2019, but still allowed only 18.6 points and 324.1 yards per game, which ranked fourth and eighth in the NFL, respectively.
