Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre believes his former coach, Mike McCarthy, would be a good fit for teams with a current vacancy.

"I think he'll do a great job," Favre said Friday on SiriusXM NFL Radio. "I had him (as my quarterbacks coach) in 1999, and that was basically the middle of my career, and then after that year he was gone, but then he came back obviously as the head coach. And really a bright mind. Good for a quarterback. I think any young quarterback would like him."

McCarthy has met with the Carolina Panthers and New York Giants, and he's reportedly scheduled to interview with the Cleveland Browns. The Giants and Browns are both trying to develop young quarterbacks.

The Dallas Cowboys are also expected to hire a new head coach, though Jason Garrett still hasn't officially been removed from the post.

"He's very understandable, much like Brian Daboll at Buffalo and Darrell Bevell (in Detroit), all guys who are coaching right now, relate to the guys very well," Favre added. "And I think that's important, on top of his Xs-and-Os mentality.

"Obviously, he's had Aaron Rodgers, and that certainly helps. But I do think he brings a level of toughness but also a confidence that as a player, as a quarterback for him, you feel confident in the plays that he calls, that he's going to call plays that cater more to your ability rather than maybe a previous guy he had. So I think he's a simple but yet confidence-building and technique-driven coach. He'll be a good fit for any of those teams."

McCarthy spent 2019 working to reinvent himself in anticipation of a return to the NFL in 2020. The Packers fired the 56-year-old in 2018 after 12-plus seasons. He led Green Bay to a Super Bowl XLV championship but appeared to butt heads with Rodgers later in his tenure.

McCarthy was the head coach during Favre's last two seasons in Green Bay.
