Change adjust desktop?

I've finally got Ubuntu running on and old laptop. I'd like to place icons etc., as I have them on my other machines. I do this with all my computers and software when possible. I try to place icons in the same place, and command short cuts do the same thing across packages. e.g. Shortcut for "polyline" is the same in Rhino, AutoCAD etc.

So, my first order of business. Can I move the Ubuntu shutdown from upper right corner to the lower left corner where it is on all my computers -- including my Raspberry Pi.

Also, can I disable having to enter a password every time I need to do something?
