Gnome Terminal doesn't respect scroll-wheel direction

I recently switched Debian to using Xfce, which I've always preferred. However the default terminal that Xfce4 on Debian launches is Gnome Terminal 3.30.2.
Now I am in the strange position of having to scroll down to make text go up in Gnome Terminal, whereas Firefox does it normally -- scroll up to make text go up.
Why isn't Gnome Terminal working correctly?
