Plex and Roku

So, was dabbling with our Roku recently and just thought I might be able to stream from my Linux file server which has Samba file shares. Well Roku has no functionality but has other alternative ways I can stream from the server. One of these was Plex.

At least on the surface it looks promising (I had never messed with it yet). Any pros/cons to using Plex to stream to our Roku? Are there other Roku/Linux compatible things I can check out?
