Sendmail log

Apologies for dumb question in advance but I havent done linux for more than 10 years and the support guy's father has just been taken into hospital so I am it!!!
In our sendmail maillog we see entries like:
Jan 9 12:04:27 wirless sendmail[3375]: etc........
When this was setup it should have been wireless not wirless - where does sendmail get that info from?
FYI - I have already edited /etc/hosts and restarted sendmail but to no avail
