System hangs after NVIDIA installation
by achesir from LinuxQuestions.org on (#4XYWE)
I followed all the sage advice so that on my CentOS system I can disable the default nouveau video driver and replace it with the NVIDIA driver. I got to the point of a command-line interface (i.e. not the GNOME GUI), lgged in as root, and ran "# ./NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-440.44.run". The displayed messages seemed fine up to and including the declaration that the installation was complete. At the command-line prompt ("# ") I typed reboot, and the result is that the system hangs: The last few messages on the console:
Started Availability of block devices.
Started Job Spooling tools.
Started Command Scheduler.
Starting GNOME Display Manager...
Started GNOME Display Manager.
Started Virtualization daemon.
...and that's it.
How do I get the system to get back to rebooting into a normal, GUI/GNOME display?
Help.
Thanks,
Aaron
