Lacie 4TB drive

I'm running Linux Mint 19.3 tricia with a relatively fast desktop PC i7 quad processor and 16gb ram running at 1300 mhz. I have a Lacie 4 TB drive attached via usb and it is PAINFULLY slow. it has a lightning cable port - can this be used with linux? Does anyone know if there any way to make this more responsive
