Soon-to-be free agent Philip Rivers has permanently moved his family from San Diego to Florida, the Los Angeles Chargers quarterback told ESPN's Chris Mortensen and Adam Schefter.

"What this means football-wise is to be determined but it was time for us to move back closer to home," Rivers said in a text message.

Rivers and his family kept their residence in San Diego despite the Chargers' move to L.A. ahead of the 2017 season.

The 38-year-old just completed the final season on his contract with the Chargers. He's scheduled to hit free agency for the first time in his 16-year career in March.

Rivers, a father of nine, previously said he plans to play in 2020, whether it's with the Chargers or not.
