Cleveland Browns wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. underwent surgery to repair a core muscle injury on Tuesday, the team announced.

A full recovery is expected, according to the Browns, though no timetable for the recovery has been provided.

Baker Mayfield made headlines in December when he was critical of the Browns' training staff for mishandling the sports hernia Beckham had been playing through all season.

The star wideout suffered the injury during training camp in August. He didn't miss a start, but Beckham posted one of the least productive campaigns of his career, catching 74 passes for 1,035 yards and four touchdowns.

Mayfield said Beckham wasn't "able to run as well as he should be able to." The quarterback added that he thought Beckham should have undergone the surgery and missed the first few games rather than "playing through pain."

Despite a disappointing first season in Cleveland, Beckham committed to staying with the AFC North club in 2020.

"I'm not going anywhere. I'll be here," he said. "We'll figure this thing out. It's just too special to leave."

The 27-year-old's future was called into question after it was reported he encouraged opposing players and coaches in October to pry him loose from the Browns.

Beckham's offseason has also gotten off to a controversial start.

The New Orleans Police Department issued an arrest warrant for the receiver after he appeared to give a security officer in LSU's locker room a butt slap while the team celebrated winning the national title. The warrant was later rescinded when the lieutenant decided not to press charges.
