VirtualBox RDP failing

Slackware 14.2 64-bit, VirtualBox 5.2.34, Extension Pack installed and reinstalled.
I am unable to connect to any VMs using the VBox RDP. The option is enabled with the default port 3389. Only one VM is running at a time. Both Remmina and rdesktop fail to connect.
Remmina shows nothing in the debug log. rdesktop spits out ERROR: Connection closed. nmap shows port 3389 open when a VM is running and closed when the VM is off. Disabling the local firewall has no effect.
RDP works fine at work although there we are using 5.1.38.
Any ideas?
