Where is default font rendering (antialias/hinting) set in XFCE
by svinoba from LinuxQuestions.org on (#4YF6F)
Hi, I would like to know where the default font rendering (anti-alias/hinting) options are set in XFCE. I'm asking this because, if we start XFCE fresh, and go to Appearance->Fonts, we see 'Enable anti-alias' is not selected (- mark) and Hinting and subpixel order are set to 'None'. However, on Debian it looks as if the default is 'disabled' for antialias and 'hintnone' for hinting, whereas in Slackware it looks like set to 'enabled' and 'hintslight'. I hope my attachments make it clear.
I didn't see anything in fonts.conf set for antialias/hinting.
On Debian, I have '10-hinting-slight.conf' in /etc/fonts/conf.d but rendering default is definitely smudgy compared to Slackware's default.
Didn't get much info from 10-19 and 20-29 files in /etc/fonts/conf.d directory.
Checked '/etc/xdg/xfce4/Xft.xrdb' which has hinting set to 1 and hintstyle to hintmedium on both Debian and Slackware but definitely default rendering on Slackware/Arch is sharper than on Debian.
I can use the GUI to set whatever rendering I need but it is bugging me to know the default setting.
