Frozen at bootloader, but not when I manually select boot device

So when I reboot and the default bootloader is the one added by linux, it's immediately frozen. The countdown to autoselect isn't moving, I have to hard boot to get out. If I use F9 (to tell the bios I want to choose the boot device) and select the linux boot option (same as default) it's fine, everything works.

So this is happening with both Ubuntu and Manjaro, so I'm not convinced it's an issue with the distro, just my bootloader, but I have no idea where to look for more information on why it freezes.

I've been mounting my system partition in Windows to delete the manjaro/ubuntu folder from the EFI folder to start fresh.

With no linux loader in the EFI partition windows boots up fine.

Sorry if I'm not using the right terms for stuff, I really have little to no idea how bootloaders/grub works or how to troubleshoot it.
