not really sure where to put a troubleshooting problem so i started in this general forum.

was going to format a usb memory stick and was checking on the command. typed "man format" and the following was the result,
formatting page, please wait...

/bin/xz: (stdout): write error: no space left on device
error executing formatting or displaying command.
system command (cd /usr/man && (echo ".pl 1100i"; /bin/gunzip -c '/usr/man/mann/format.n.gz': echo ".\\""; echo ".pl \n(nlu+10") | /usr/bin/gtbl | /usr/bin/nro 'f -mandoc | /bin/xz > /usr/man/catn/format.n.xz exited with status 256.

any ideas what the machine is trying to tell me?
can a machine run out of space on stdout? also how?
might this be a ram problem?

have not been on this system in a few weeks but prior the man command did function as expected.
not really sure what to look for to troubleshoot this problem
