Resilver Chromebook with regular GNU/Linux

I've got an expired Chromebook and would like to repurpose it by installing regular GNU/Linux on it on "bare metal". I am not interested in Crouton, Croutini, or anything other than a complete wipe of the permanent storage. Where do I look for suitable installer images and where do I look for instructions for said installer images?
