a particular use-case for PulseAudio

I have a video of a drum & bugle corps performance, but the audio in it isn't the greatest. I have another, better recording of the audio, but no video.
Apparently, my MPlayer config is set to adjust the *global* volume on the sound card, not just its own volume. Oops.
"pavucontrol" made easy work of muting the audio from MPlayer, giving me the better audio from XMMS to go with the video.
Color me impressed! I wasn't sure what to think of PulseAudio when it PatV made it officially part of Slackware (I had a hard time getting it to work on my old desktop) but this definitely put a couple check-marks in the "plus" column.
