Attempted to kill init! (For the millionth time)
by Bernyyy from LinuxQuestions.org on (#4ZMZG)
Greetings fellow Linux users, veterans and gurus.
Allow me to explain my situation. As many of you have seen, many newbies like me experience the famous "Kernel Panic: attempted to kill init!" error. A friend of mine got me hooked into the linux thing, and for good reasons, since Windows 7 (my favorite OS and the one I've been using for years) has stopped receiving support. I got informed a little bit on the topic of Libre Software, and I thought it was a good idea to pick a distro and start using Linux, since it is enough for anything I do (Blender, Steam Games, browsing) and has also a better customization than Windows.
He told me to go for Manjaro, since it was the same distro he was using and the environment in question, KDE, had really caught my eye.
My first try at installing it didn't go well, Kernel Panic, yada yada yada. He told me to go with something a easier or to stay in Windows, so I did and I choose Mint. It has the reputation of being a "begginer distro", so I figured out I wouldn't have any trouble installing and booting it. But the same thing happened.
I am going to be honest, I don't know anything about programming languages or software in general, though I am looking forward to learn something basic in the future. The point is, I want to know why this happens, and how to solve it in words I can understand.
Thanks a lot!
