The NFL invited 17 collegiate quarterbacks to participate in next week's scouting combine. Among them is Oklahoma passer Jalen Hurts, who stresses he'll only participate in passing drills at the event.

"He wants to show people that he's a quarterback," trainer Chip Smith said to D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

"That's the big thing. There is talk about other positions and that kind of stuff. ... He's a great athlete. He played in two national championships. He's got more film than any of the other quarterbacks out there."

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson said that a Los Angeles Chargers scout asked him to participate in receiver drills at the 2018 combine. Jackson decided to drop out of running the 40-yard dash as a result.

He went on to be named the 2019 NFL MVP.

Hurts enjoyed a decorated college career in which he threw for 9,477 yards and 80 touchdowns across four seasons while also rushing for 3,274 yards and 43 scores.

He ran for 20 touchdowns in his senior season with the Sooners, but Hurts doesn't want his athleticism to cloud his future as a quarterback.

"He's a great athlete and I think that people are more interested in seeing him throw," Smith said. "They know he's a great athlete. He's probably a 4.5, 4.6 guy in the 40. He runs (fast). He can change directions. He's strong. He's not going to lift, but he could."
