desktop-nemo continuous writing activity -- why ?

I noticed what seemed to be execess disk activity on my system. I went to the system activity monitor and found the desktop-nemo running at 6% cpu and issuing lots of write but no reading
when i restarted the system the activity continued ??
so, I killed the desktop-nemo process
the only ill effect seems to be I can click on stuff on the desktop to activate it
any insight on this will be appreciated !!
