Video thumbnails on new ktown install
by claudecat from LinuxQuestions.org on (#4ZRA3)
I've had this issue consistently, for years now, with Slackware's KDE, whether it was the old version or the vastly preferable ktown collection provided by the esteemed alienbob.
I simply can't get video thumbnails to work in dolphin. This despite the fact that they work when I use the live USB. Once installed, it's nada.
I've tried installing all manner of gst-plugins, even mplayerthumbs, which worked a few years ago when I posted on this same issue but seems not to now.
If I look at ksysguard when I open a folder with video files, there is a thumbnail.so process working for a little while, but it goes away before any thumbs are actually displayed. Oddly, for a brief moment after I had installed mplayerthumbs, I did see about a half a folder's worth of thumbs, but when leaving and reentering the folder even those disappeared.
I'm frankly stumped as to what's going on here, as I certainly do have the ffmpegthumbs package installed and all the correct settings set in dolphin. Any ideas from the experts here? It's admittedly a minor issue, but I'd still like to figure it out if possible...
I'm using the latest liveslack iso from a few days ago, now fully updated, and aside from the nvidia .run file doing the graphics and a few larger packages being removed (texlive, rust, a few others) it's all as originally installed. Thanks in advance if anyone knows what's up!
