The New York Rangers signed forward Chris Kreider to a seven-year contract extension, the team announced Monday.

The contract carries an average annual value of $6.5 million, according to TSN's Bob McKenzie.

Kreider, who was set to hit free agency this summer, had been in the NHL's rumor mill all season as one of the biggest potential trade targets.

In 60 games of 2019-20, the 28-year-old has recorded 24 goals and 45 points, putting him on pace to establish career highs in both categories.
