GOG introduces new 30 day refund policy

GOG, the digital game distribution platform formerly known as Good Old Games, introduced a new refund policy this week. The new policy allows users to fully refund games up to 30 days after purchase, regardless of how many hours were sunk into the game during that time. Steam and Epic Games Store currently allow users to refund games up to 14 days after purchase, but only if the user has not played the game in question for more than two hours.

GOG's new policy may seem straightforwardly less restrictive, but there is a caveat. GOG recognizes the potential for abuse of the system, saying that it trusts users to use the new refund policy only in cases when "something doesn't work as you expected." The policy stipulates that GOG reserves "the right to refuse refunds in individual cases." The policy also states the following:

Please respect all the time and hard work put into making the games you play and remember that refunds are not reviews. If you finished the game and didn't like it, please consider sharing your opinion instead. Also, please don't take advantage of our trust by asking for an unreasonable amount of games to be refunded. Don't be that person. No one likes that person.
