Los Angeles Chargers running back Melvin Gordon is expected to test the market when he hits free agency next week, a source told ESPN's Josina Anderson.

The report comes more than a month after Gordon insisted there was no bad blood between him and the Chargers and said he hoped to re-sign with the team.

The tailback sat out the first three weeks of the 2019 campaign amid a contract dispute. He reportedly intended to leave Los Angeles as a free agent before deciding to rejoin his teammates in late September.

If he does hit the open market, Gordon would join a deep group of free-agent running backs. Others with expiring contracts include Derrick Henry (if he doesn't receive the franchise tag from the Tennessee Titans), Kenyan Drake, Jordan Howard, Lamar Miller, and LeSean McCoy.

The 26-year-old Gordon is coming off a disappointing season in which he ran for 612 yards and eight touchdowns while averaging 3.8 yards per carry and losing two fumbles. The two-time Pro Bowler averaged 5.1 yards per carry in 2018.
