Nvdia Drivers: need a guide to help me not prick my system.

Have a p106 i want to use for gaming, but even if it was a nomal 1060 heard nvdia is painful to install, and xan brick a system. How should i go about doing it? Installed the system without a the graphics card in, only igpu of 8086k. So i need a guide to know what to do after throwing it in the system, so i dont brick myself. Got the card used and do i need a ddu? Is there a linux ddu thing? I'm a complete newbie. First card ever.
