The Chicago Bears and linebacker Danny Trevathan have agreed to a three-year contract extension, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

The deal could be worth up to $24 million, a source told Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune.

Trevathan was on track to become a free agent March 18. The 29-year-old is coming off a four-year, $28-million contract with Chicago, which followed a four-year stint with the Denver Broncos.

Trevathan was limited to nine games in 2019 because of an elbow injury. He posted 70 tackles, one sack, one forced fumble, and one pass breakup before landing on injured reserve.

In 2018, Trevathan totaled 102 tackles, two sacks, two interceptions, and six pass breakups over 16 games.
