Strange issue...random esc keypresses, only in Minecraft Java?
by surfrock66 from LinuxQuestions.org on (#50T9Z)
I am running a System76 Desktop with Debian testing on it, with the MATE desktop. When in Minecraft java, where I afk often, I started experiencing random esc keypresses. Using xev, evtest, and showkey, I've been unable to reproduce the random esc keypresses.
In minecraft, I am experiencing exiting the chest interface, exiting the grindstone interface, if I'm paused the game unpauses, if I'm unpaused the game pauses, and if I'm in the settings menu the game will reverse out to the previous menu...all of which indicate an actual registering of the esc key. I thought this was from a combination of pressing the left shift key and clicking (which I do a lot when moving stuff from chests) but I've experienced it with no input present. I also pressed F3+P to make sure the "pausing" wasn't from loss of focus.
I have run all apt updates AND rebooted since this started, also I updated the minecraft deb.
I checked my keyboard to make sure the key isn't dirty (it isn't). Using showkey, evtest, and xev I was unable to register any phantom presses of the esc key even when pressing the left shift and clicking (which was an initial suspicion).
At this point, I don't know what else to try to get to the bottom of this.
