buff/cache question

I am running Ubuntu Desktop, and when I run this command, this is what I get. I have a Dell laptop, running 16 GB. I would like to run 1-2 VMs.

total used free shared buff/cache available
Mem: 15901 4521 5080 1626 6299 9549
Swap: 979 0 979Am I able to use what is listed for buff/cache for this purpose?
EDIT: I just noticed "shared" and the "total": do I really have this total available to me for this purpose?
