Crime, COVID-19 and how bad actors will take advantage of this pandemic
Some people look to the helpers, but we also have to watch for the scammers.
There are a number of COVID-19 related frauds and scams online. Prime Minister Trudeau has tweeted warnings about them to all Canadians. Premier Doug Ford has been naming and shaming alleged price gougers.
In Toronto, there have been various crimes ranging from a man allegedly trying sell COVID-19 test kits across the border to several street racers police say were speeding up the empty roads.
In the US, a senator is being investigated for insider trading, and Dutch criminals recently stole a Vincent Van Gogh painting in an overnight raid on a museum that was closed because of COVID-19.
Law enforcement now has to also take up the challenge of enforcing quarantine laws.
From fraud to cyber-attacks and terrorism, to discuss how bad actors may be trying to take advantage of this COVID-19 pandemic, we are joined by Stephanie Carvin, assistant professor of International Relations at the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs at Carleton University. She is an expert on security issues, who has consulted for the US Department of Defence and worked as a security analyst for the Government of Canada, and she hosts A Podcast called Intrepid.
