Bevy of new Intel/Nvidia laptops revealed by Asus, Lenovo, and more

Both Intel and Nvidia announced new processors this week-Intel its 10th-gen 14-nm mobile CPUs and Nvidia its mobile RTX "Super" edition cards. Alongside those announcements comes the reveal of a whole pile of appealing new laptops from a variety of makers. Here are some of the most interesting-looking pieces of hardware coming with the 10 and 20 inside.

Asus

First up are Asus' offerings. The most interesting offering among them is the Zephyrus Duo 15. This thing features upgrades that can take you up to a Core i9-10980HK CPU and RTX 2080 Super mobile GPU, but it's the form factor that's most interesting. The top screen is pretty standard for a ROG machine; either a 4K60 panel or a 1080p/300Hz screen. But the Duo also features a 14-inch wide touch-sensitive ROG ScreenPad Plus that raises from the laptop to angle up to the user. This lower screen is a 60Hz panel that lifts to a 13-degree angle that also serves to act as ventilation the system.

Also on the Zephyrus line are the S17, a 17.3-inch laptop with a 300Hz, 3-ms response display, and the Zephyrus 15 and M15. Asus isn't talking pricing on these yet.

Lenovo

From Lenovo is a rebranding of its Y540 and Y740 models. They'll now go by Legion 5i and Legion 7i. The 5i starts at just $1,000 with an RTX 2060 GPU, while the 7i starts from $1,200 for an RTX 2070 Super. These laptops make use of Nvidia's Advanced Optimus tech. That means they'll offer G-Sync displays, but they'll also be able to switch to from the discrete GPU to the integrated one for light-duty tasks. Unlike past implementations, these will not require a reboot to make the switch.

Razer

Razer will refresh its Blade 15 laptop and offer some new options in the process. In addition to supporting the Intel 10th-gen chips and Nvidia RTX Super chips, you'll have the option to for a 300Hz display or an OLED display. Razer is also dropping the Mini DisplayPort jack and swapping in an extra USB Type-C port with Thunderbolt 3. The Blade 15 will start from $1,600.

MSI

MSI has a couple of notebooks on the way. The GS66 is a .71-inch thick laptop that can support fastest Intel and Nvidia mobile chips, a 300 Hz display, and a 99 WHr battery. The GE66 is similarly equipped but features bigger fans and, more importantly, an RGB LED lightbar along the front that definitely won't be distracting. Both are 15-inch books.

Gigabyte

Gigabyte has a cornucopia of new systems, including four each of Aorus and Aero books. The Aorus 15G is the "world's first 15-inch laptop with OMRON mechanical key switches," and weighs just 4.85 lbs (2.2 kg). The Aorus laptops focus on offering screens with fast refresh rates on lightweight, responsive systems with lots of cooling. The Aero laptops are for content creators who happen to game, offering Pantone-certified, HDR400, 4K60 displays.

More systems are sure to come from places like Dell and HP. The Lenovo books stand out for their low prices, while that Zephyrus Duo is hard to miss thanks to its dual-screen setup.
