Right before the NFL banned visits between teams and college prospects ahead of the 2020 draft, the Miami Dolphins rushed to get Tua Tagovailoa to their team facility, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Tagovailoa was the first prospect the Dolphins attempted to bring in, Schefter adds, but the two sides failed to work out details of a potential meeting prior to the March 13 restriction.

Miami's doctors were able to examine the star signal-caller in person during February's combine but haven't had any time with him since.

The Dolphins currently hold the fifth overall selection in next week's draft and are expected to target a quarterback. The team has been linked to Tua since last offseason, but the former Crimson Tide star reportedly failed to impress management during a meeting.

Reports also surfaced in February that Miami could be more interested in selecting Oregon passer Justin Herbert due to concerns over Tagovailoa's injury history and long-term durability.

"(Tagovailoa and Herbert are) both interesting kids," general manager Chris Grier said during his pre-draft teleconference. "I've gotten to know both of them through this process. They're really good people. They're both very talented players. Both have won a lot of games. They're both intelligent players and winners."

Despite an NFL executive recently claiming Tua failed two team physicals, the quarterback's health outlook has been almost overwhelmingly positive throughout the majority of the draft process.
