Display Port Audio desperately needs boost

Asus QX248 monitor came with speakers; but they're barely audible. (Wasn't going to bother with them but had another use for the ordinary speakers on this box.)

Is there any way that this output can be boosted somehow? Or are these speakers just dead-weight?
